Many users struggle with setting up Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) for use on Government of India websites like Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), Income Tax, E Procurement Portal etc. Here is a short series of steps to make it easier for you to do it.

  1. DSC will only work with Internet Explorer (IE). We haven't seen it working smoothly with other browsers so we suggest you use IE.
  2. Install the latest Java Runtime (Version 8 currently). You need NOT install the full Java Developer Kit (JDK).
  3. Usually Java executable path will be added to the system PATH so that Java can be executed.
  4. After Java is installed setup JAVA_HOME environment variable in your Windows version using Control Panel -> System -> Advanced System Settings -> On the "Advanced Tab" choose Environment Variables button at the bottom -> System Variables. Click "New" and add
    1. Variable Name: JAVA_HOME
    2. Variable Value: <Path to where Java is installed>. E.g. D:\java\jre1.8.0_25
  5. Save / OK
  6. Go to Control Panel -> Java. This will open Java Control Panel (JCP).
    1. In the "Security" tab tick "Enable Java content in browser".
    2. Set "Security level for applications" to "High" (do not choose "Very High").
    3. In "Exception Site List" add http://mca.gov.in and https://mca.gov.in.
  7. Go to Tools > Internet Options > Security > Trusted Sites. Add http://mca.gov.in and https://mca.gov.in
