People around you are downloading movies/videos for free and you wonder how do they do it. Where do you get the movies to download from. Mostly the movies are being downloaded using what is called Torrent download. You can also download movies using torrent. A Torrent file is used to download a movie or video. This is a small file which contains information about which computers on the internet all over the world have a movie/video. This file is like a key for downloading the full movie/video. The steps to do that are:

  • Download a Torrent client software like utorrent or BitTorrent, which are free. Install it on your computer/laptop. Choose the Windows/Linux or Mac versions depending on your operating system.
  • Visit any of the websites which act as Torrent meta-search engines, i.e. they search multiple torrent sites for you. On the bottom of the Help page is a comprehensive list of such websites. Their is a list of some popular at the bottom this page.
  • Specify the name of the movie/video or partial name of the movie/video and click "Search".
  • The list which results contains a lot of movies having similar names to what you specify in your search. Choose the appropriate movie, i.e. correct name, director, year of making etc and click.
  • This should result in a list of websites which have the torrent file for this movie.
  • Choose and click a good website like or which usually have some comments about the movie/video, its storyline and its quality.
  • Check movie/video description and user comments to know if this is the movie/video you are looking for and if it is good quality. Be careful to check the language of the movie/video and subtitles available.
  • Download the torrent file which is usually a very small file, not more than 200kb under most circumstances. Be careful not to click sponsored links. The actual torrent file links might get obscured by the advertisements and direct download options (which are mostly paid options).
  • Double click the downloaded torrent file or start the Torrent client software and choose the recently downloaded file. Add the torrent to downloads.
  • The movie/video download should immediately start.

How does it work:

  • Torrent process is a file sharing process where people who have already downloaded the file or are the creators of the movie/video keep it on their computer and share it for others to upload.
  • The tool which helps in uploading and downloading the file to your computer is the Torrent client software.
  • Remember that once you have started downloading the file, it is also available to others for upload from your computer. Most of the torrent clients manage the uploading part automatically. This method of movie/video sharing is like give and take. If you want something, you should also be ready to give something.
  • The process of allowing others to upload the file is called "Seeding". Its important that you seed after your download is complete so that other user's uploads can be started using your file as the source.

In addition to using Torrents to download movies and videos you can also download documentaries, books, software etc which other people share on the internet. So its not only movies and videos but much more that you can download and also share. You can also find rare movies and videos available for download.
