Here are some tips for you if you are looking to reduce your mobile bill and looking for better Post Paid plans than what you are subscribed to currently. The postpaid plans visible on the websites of most Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) are what are to be shown to general public. If you have been a loyal customer and have been using a TSP then you can force them to offer you a better plan.

Telecom service providers are increasing call tariffs because they are inefficient, have large overheads and overpay their staff. Despite all these lacunae they make lots of profit although their balance sheets might not show it. All current Telecom service providers have hidden plans which are only for customers who will either leave them or are for customers who opt for them after shifting from their current TSP, the so called Mobile Number Portability (MNP) customers.

  • Port Out: Give a port out request from your current TSP. They will then call you and ask you the reason for moving out. If you tell them that your mobile bill is high and you want to reduce it then they will offer you better plans.

Port Out request can be sent by sending the following SMS: PORT <Your Mobile No.> to 1900
    Example: PORT 9876543210

Vodafone has a Special plan for customers opting to leave them in Delhi (and probably other areas)
Rs. 149 monthly rental: 600min Local/STD minutes free, 400 Local/STD SMSs free, Per minute pulse, 30ps per min Local and STD calls.

Important Note: If you give a Port Out request be prepared to give reasons for port out so that you get a better deal. You must be ready with names of rival providers offering you better plans. If you don't do your homework then you might not get better offers from your current TSP.

  • Look for MNP plans from TSPs: All TSPs have better plans for MNP customers, so if you have a TSP in your area who has good signal, call quality and is giving good service then change your TSP. For example Idea has following plans for MNP customers in Delhi (and probably other areas):
Rs. 149 monthly rental: 400min Local/STD minutes free, 200 Local/STD SMSs free, Per minute pulse, 30ps per min Local and STD calls.

Aircel and other TSPs also have similar and better plans for MNP customers.

So talk to your TSP and negotiate for a better plan to reduce your mobile bill.
