How to find low priced (cheap) air tickets?

Many travel websites in India provide cheap air tickets, especially if you book the tickets well in advance. Here is a list of some of the main websites:

If you are looking for low cost air tickets you can go to any of these sites and check the availability and fares for the days you wish to travel. A better and faster alternative is to use the www.ixigo.com website. This website gives a comparison of offers from a bunch of the websites in the above list. Although their list of sites for search often seems to be changing (probably depending on their tie ups). So if you are looking for a faster way to get a comparison of low cost tickets then try to fill in appropriate information on Ixigo website, it will show prices and also open travelocity, yatra, goibibo and ezeego1 websites with best available offers.

Here are some more tips which are useful for finding cheap tickets:

  1. First check on Ixigo website what are the cheapest tickets available.

  2. Try to look for the same tickets on websites NOT searched by Ixigo, like ezeego1.com and cleartrip. If you find better tickets on those sites, note the prices.

  3. Via.com also has some new Options like quoting for a ticket, i.e "Fly @ Mera Price". You can quote a price which you are ready to pay for a particular day and slot (morning, afternoon, evening). If via.com accepts it they will issue you a ticket. Typically you can save 10-25% on list prices.
  4. To find cheaper options, go the websites of the respective airlines which were reported by either Ixigo or Makemytrip or Cleartip and look what they are offering for the same flight. It is a better option to book directly with the airline website as you end up paying less in case of cancellation and change of date.

    1. The travel portal websites typically charge you Rs.250 to change date or to cancel in addition to the Rs.750 charged by each airline. So you will not loose that Rs.250 if you book directly with an airline.

    2. And if you want to cancel within 24 hours you have to anyway contact the airline.

  5. Basic rule is "book as early as you can". The more you wait the more likely that ticket prices will rise. Primarily all these airlines are greedy, they want more and more profit. If you wait overnight the ticket prices might go up as the date changes especially within one-two days before the date of journey.

  6. Check out if your credit or debit card has some offers. You can easily save Rs.200 and above (10-15%) with some or the other promotion or offer on your credit card.

  7. Most of the airlines now offer Rs. 1000 and above in discounts on booking Return flights.
